Description
Cactus spines did not evolve to punish the ankles of outdoor enthusiasts. The spines are modified leaves that evolved on the cactus to help it survive in its environment. Since cacti have adapted to living in diverse climates, from scorching deserts to cloudy highlands, in the midst of numerous types of predators, the purpose of their spines is dependent on the species. But essentially, they provide protection and shade, help the cactus retain water and, in some species, facilitate dispersal.

I got my first camera, a Kodak Brownie, when I was six or seven years old, and I've been hooked on the art of photography ever since. A year or so later, I got my first processing and print making kit and I began to realize that I could be as creative, if not more so, in the darkroom than in the field. Over the years, my cameras and darkroom got more complex, giving me more creative tools to work with. About 10 years ago, I traded film, chemicals, tanks, trays, and the smell, for a digital camera and a copy of Photoshop. I never looked back.
